Back to Spring & Summer 2020 Announcements

Officials and health experts are monitoring the outbreak of the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19), a new coronavirus that originated in China in 2019 that seems to spread faster and may be passed from person to person.

WVU Medicine has experience with handling infectious diseases and infection control of viruses like COVID-19. Our infection prevention teams are working in conjunction with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources and local health authorities to provide information and implement policies intended to ensure the continued health and safety of our community.

Currently, West Virginia has no cases of COVID-19. Most West Virginians are unlikely to be exposed to COVID-19 at this time, and the immediate health risk is low. However, according to CDC, due to the rapidly changing nature of the spread of COVID-19 around the world, it is important for families and business to prepare now for potential community spread.
